A damned mindset

Why is India the last country to heed the advice of environmentalists? When Governments have stopped building big dams throughout the world , the Indian Government continues to build them.

The judgment of the Supreme Court has come as a rude shock to the NGOs and social activists. The judgment has put India in the league of authoritarian countries like China. There is no way a democratic country would allow such a thing to happen to its citizens. India is going in for short-term benefits. If this country wants a permanent solution to water shortages, a comprehensive plan of water harvesting and management needs to be developed locally.

The country has once again deprived the tribals of their rights. Instead of correcting the anomaly, the Government persists with its old mindset. The Government should protect the interests of its citizens instead of backing the big business lobby
