SC issues notice to Arundhati
PTI
New Delhi, August 28
The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued
notice to Booker Prize winner Arundhati Roy asking her to show
cause why contempt proceedings be not initiated against her
for her defiant stand against judiciary in a matter pertaining
to a protest rally held before the court by Narmada Bachao
Andolan (NBA) in December last year.
A bench comprising Justice G B Pattanaik and Justice Ruma
Pal, however, discharged NBA leader Medha Patkar and advocate
Prashant Bhushan from the proceedings initiated on the basis
of a petition filed by two advocates.
The court, after hearing counsel for Roy, Patkar and
Bhushan in person on August 2, reserved orders on a petition
filed by the advocates seeking action against them for raising
derogatory remarks against the judiciary and judges of the
apex court during a "dharna" by NBA before the apex court.
