Not correct

This is in response to the news item Anti-dam activists attack ministers, burn cars (November 1) by Rathin Das about the failure of arrangements at the Sardar Sarovar dam site to take care of the thousands of people brought there by the Gujarat Government in state roadways buses.

The report says that they were state-sponsored people brought to the dam site by using 3,200 state government buses to celebrate the renewal of work on the controversial Sardar Sarovar dam. Nowhere in the copy is there any mention of anti-dam activists being part of the crowd gathered at the site. According to the report, “thousands of irate people attacked...following spending many hours in the hot afternoon without food and water”.

It is highly objectionable that the news report about an entirely different incident be carried under a misleading title that maligns a non-violent people’s movement. The movement against the construction of the Sardar Sarovar dam stands for the just rights of the underprivileged and marginalised sections of society.
