Medha Patkar manhandled by angry mob
PTI
Ahmedabad, April 7

Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar was on Sunday mobbed by angry residents of Sabarmati colony inside Gandhi Ashram in the heart of the city, where she was presiding over a peace meeting.

The residents, led by one Amit Thakur, barged into the ashram, founded by peace apostle Mahatma Gandhi, raising slogans "we do not need Medha for peace in Gujarat".

The protestors maintained that Patkar had "harmed the interests of Gujarat by opposing the much awaited Sardar Sarovar Project".

"After denying us water, she has come to bring peace," Thakur said as he moved towards Patkar and even caught her by the shoulder.

However, police personnel prevented the incident from escalating further.

Patkar was immediately whisked inside the room and guarded by police personnel. Renowned dancer and television personality Mallika Sarabhai was among those who attended the peace meeting.
