The Narmada Bachao Andolan on Thursday described as "highly irresponsible" Union Home Minister L K Advani's observations that foreign powers could be behind the persons who are opposed to the Sardar Sarovar project.
Mr Advani, while addressing an enthusiastic crowd after relaunching construction work on the stalled Narmada dam project at Kevadiya Colony on Tuesday, had hinted that foreign powers could be instigating the anti-dam forces.
A spokesman of the NBA said the agitation against the dam was a mass movement and added that Mr Advani should refrain from making such baseless statements.
A week after the Supreme Court judgement allowing further construction of the dam on the disputed dam, Gujarat's Narmada Development Minister Jay Narain Vyas had written to the Union Home Minister seeking a CBI inquiry into the sources of funds to the NBA.
Mr Vyas claimed to have sent some incriminating documents about the NBA's foreign links and funding.
