NBA activists launch dharnaMUMBAI, SEPT. 19. Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader, Ms. Medha Patkar and 125 NBA activists, who were detained by Maharashtra police at Dhadgaon for agitating against the Narmada dam, today launched a dharna demanding that they be released and taken back to Domkhedi village to continue their satyagraha. NBA sources said Ms. Patkar and the activists were detained by police during their ``Jalsamadhi'' agitation when they were two to three feet in water, facing submergence following the rising level of the dam water. Meanwhile, police released 69 NBA activists who were arrested on September 17 at Piplachop village for staging a demonstration. - PTI Section : Front Page Previous : BJP's pet issues not shelved: Advani Next : Pak. troops shell villages in J&K Front Page | National | International | Regional | Opinion | Business | Sport | Miscellaneous | Classified | Employment | Features | Index | Home Copyrights © 1999 The Hindu & Tribeca Internet Initiatives Inc.
